About me

I came into politics to address the housing crisis.

A crisis which takes 36% of the income of private renters.

A crisis which leaves 430,000 social renters in non-decent homes, unheard and stigmatised.

A crisis which confined 130,000 households into temporary accommodation.

A crisis which traps leaseholders in unsellable homes.

This is one and the same crisis. One which stems from the state letting go of its responsibility for our housing wellbeing, from the Right to Buy in the ‘80s, to the outsourcing of housing provision in the ‘90s, and austerity in the 2010s. All of which is rooted in a culture which centres housing as an asset for our prosperity, rather than a crucial foundation for our societal wellbeing.

I have worked across the housing sector, think tanks, campaigns and Parliament in order to address this. I have worked directly with legislators and advocated to the Government, securing meaningful policy change which has impacted real people’s lives.
